DON EDWARD, CA, PARTNER
After graduating from the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, Don articled with a national accounting firm in Toronto earning his CA degree in 1975. Since joining the firm in 1976 Don has handled the financial reporting and tax needs of a wide variety of clients ranging from golf courses to manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers, pension funds, service businesses and professionals.

Another active part of Don's practice is the estate management area. Don has handled several large estates including ones where he has been actively involved in all aspects of commercial real estate management including the negotiation of leases and financing arrangements, environmental assessments and liability issues, building construction and selling of properties.

Don also heads up the litigation support practice of Powell Jones LLP which involves support to law firms (matrimonial, estate and shareholder disputes, insurance claims), valuation services (for dispute resolution, estate planning, insurance, purchase and sale of businesses) and investigative accounting (insurance claims and fraud investigations.)

GREG FERGUSON, CA, PARTNER
After graduating from York University in 1985 Greg joined Collins Barrow, a small CA practice in Newmarket where he worked on a number of small to medium sized owner-manager businesses until 1989 when he joined the ranks of Ernst & Young.

During his tenure at Ernst & Young, Greg received his CA degree in 1990 and was promoted to Manager. Greg serviced a wide variety of medium to large private companies while gaining experience with public companies. With a desire to return to his owner-manager roots Greg joined the firm in 1994 and relocated to Barrie.

At Powell Jones LLP the majority of Greg's time is spent with many of the firm's larger clients. In addition to providing accounting, auditing and tax services to his clients, Greg also provides a wide range of management consulting services such as succession planning, cash flow and budget analysis, financing and strategic planning.

ALAN PRIEST, CA, CFP, PARTNER
Alan graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics in 1986 and received his CA Degree in 1987. Alan received his CFP (Certified Financial Planner) degree in 1998.

Prior to joining Powell Jones LLP Alan practiced with a national accounting firm in Toronto.

Alan joined Powell Jones LLP in 1987 and is responsible for the taxation group at Powell Jones specializing in owner-managed businesses and agricultural industry. Alan is a lifelong resident of Simcoe County.

SCOTT A. MacKAY, CA, PARTNER
Scott graduated from the University of Waterloo (Co-Op Program) in 1980 and earned his CA degree in 1981.

He articled with a national accounting firm in Toronto before joining Powell Jones LLP in 1982. Over the years, Scott has handled a wide variety of clients ranging from professionals to manufacturing, including some U.S. subsidiaries.

Scott's main focus is in dealing with owner-managed businesses with an emphasis on strategic tax planning and assistance in managing their business affairs. His secondary expertise is in financial planning, real estate and Mortgage Investment Corporations.

Over the last 20 years Scott has been involved with many different volunteer organizations and has raised his family in the Barrie community.

LARRY JONES, CA, ASSOCIATE
One of the founding members of the firm, Larry earned his CA degree in 1966 and joined the firm in 1967. Besides being responsible for a variety of medium sized businesses in the accounting, tax and business advisory areas, Larry's particular expertise lies in dealing with the real estate industry, syndications, personal investment strategies, financial planning and Mortgage Investment Corporations (MIC). He is particularly adept at structuring Joint Venture real estate arrangements including financing. He has been a long time member of the Barrie Rotary Club and Midhurst United Church.

SCOTT WILSON, CA, CFE, PARTNER
Scott graduated from University of Western Ontario and University of Windsor.

He practised with a national accounting firm in Toronto and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985.

He left public accounting and worked in private industry in both manufacturing and retail sectors until joining Powell Jones LLP in 1990. Scott is responsible for servicing a variety of medium sized businesses in the areas of audit, accounting, tax, business advisory and investigative accounting.

Scott received his CFE from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in 1994. He has been involved in various litigation and insurance claim files in our office.

KEN KAPTY, CA, T.E.P., PARTNER
Ken graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in 1990. He practiced with a national accounting firm in Vancouver and earned his CA degree in 1993.

Ken completed the CICA In-depth Tax Course in 1996 and the Canadian Securities Course in 1989. He is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Ken has been a tax lecturer for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia, School of Chartered Accountancy and a Marker for Uniform Final Examinations for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has been an Author and Marker of audit and tax exams for Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia. He has also authored tax articles published by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.

Ken has completed the CICA Advanced Tax Course in Wealth Preservation and the CICA Advanced Tax Course in Corporate Reorganizations. Ken's work at Powell Jones LLP is primarily directed towards the owner-manager tax planning and compliance areas.

H. PAUL RASTAS, CA, CFP, CAFA, PRINCIPAL
Paul provides accounting and income tax services primarily to the firm's small and medium sized owner managed clients, including retail outlets, farms, professionals, and other service organizations. He is often engaged in succession and estate planning, and other personal financial planning issues, and commodity tax planning (GST and Ontario Retail Sales Tax).

Paul graduated with a Mathematics degree (B.Sc.) from the University of Western Ontario. He articled with a national accounting firm, qualified as a CA in 1976, and subsequently earned the Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Canadian Association of Farm Advisor (CAFA) designations. He acquired an extensive background in the unique income tax advantages and benefits available to the farm community, working with a regional CA firm in the Waterloo/Wellington county area. Paul joined Powell Jones LLP in 1985.

Paul's community involvement includes the Barrie Integrated Baseball Association, and the Optimist Club of Barrie as past President and Director. Paul has taught accounting and income tax at Georgian College in Barrie.

KIM HENRY, CA, PRINCIPAL
After graduating from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in 1995, Kim practiced with a national accounting firm in Hamilton servicing clients in various industry sectors including manufacturing, transportation, insurance and Not-for-Profit.  She earned her C.A. degree in 1999. 

Kim left public accounting and worked in the private sector prior to joining Powell Jones LLP in 2001.  She provides audit, accounting and tax services to a variety of clients including manufacturing, professionals, agricultural and Not-For-Profit organizations.

WILLIAM A. WATSON, CA, ASSOCIATE
Bill earned his CA degree in 1973 with a national accounting firm in the Toronto area. In 1995 he joined the firm as an Associate bringing with him his practice base of small and medium sized clients. Bill has handled a variety of client engagements from various industry and service sectors including estate administration and planning, personal tax planning and compliance, manufacturing, retailing, wholesalers, lawyers, dental and medical practices and investment holding corporations.

Bill provides a full range of accounting, tax and business advisory services necessary to satisfy the needs of his clients.

RON BRAEDLEY, CA, ASSOCIATE
Ron graduated from Mount Allison University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He articled with a national accounting firm in New Brunswick and qualified as a CA in 1981. In 1987 Ron and his family moved to Orillia, Ontario where he joined a regional accounting firm which merged with a national firm shortly after his arrival. He was office managing partner in the Orillia office from 1999 to 2000 and joined Powell Jones LLP as an Associate in 2005.

During his career in public accounting he has provided accounting, auditing, taxation and consulting services to a wide variey of clients including car dealers, contractors, insurance brokers, hospitals, manufacturers, municipalities, professionals, resorts and various non-profit organizations.

Ron has been active in his community and has served as president of the Orillia Rotary Club and as a board member for a number of non-profit organizations.
