ALAN PRIEST, CA, CFP, PARTNER
Alan graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor
of Mathematics in 1986 and received his CA Degree in 1987. Alan received
his CFP (Certified Financial Planner) degree in 1998.
Alan is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and has completed the CICA
In-Depth Tax Course.
Prior to joining Powell Jones LLP Alan practiced with a national accounting
firm in Toronto.
Alan joined Powell Jones LLP in 1987 and is responsible for the taxation
group at Powell Jones specializing in owner-managed businesses and the agricultural
industry. Alan is a lifelong resident of Simcoe County.
KEN KAPTY, CA, T.E.P., PARTNER
Ken graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours)
in 1990. He practiced with a national accounting firm in Vancouver and
earned his CA degree in 1993.
Ken completed the CICA In-depth Tax Course in 1996 and the Canadian Securities
Course in 1989. He is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Society of Trust
and Estate Practitioners. Ken has
been a tax lecturer for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British
Columbia, School of Chartered Accountancy and a Marker for Uniform Final
Examinations for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has
been an Author and Marker of audit and tax exams for Institute of Chartered
Accountants of British Columbia. He has also authored tax articles published
by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.
Ken has completed the CICA Advanced Tax Course in Corporate Reorganizations and
the CICA Advanced Tax Course in Wealth Preservation.
Ken's work at Powell Jones LLP is primarily directed towards the owner-manager
tax planning and compliance areas.
H. PAUL RASTAS,
CA, CFP, CAFA, PRINCIPAL
Paul provides accounting and income tax services primarily to the firm's small and medium sized owner managed clients, including retail outlets, farms, professionals, and other service organizations. He is often engaged in succession and estate planning, and other personal financial planning issues, and commodity tax planning (GST and Ontario Retail Sales Tax).
Paul graduated with a Mathematics degree (B.Sc.) from the University of Western Ontario. He articled with a national accounting firm, qualified as a CA in 1976, and subsequently earned the Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Canadian Association of Farm Advisor (CAFA) designations. He acquired an extensive background in the unique income tax advantages and benefits available to the farm community, working with a regional CA firm in the Waterloo/Wellington county area. Paul joined Powell Jones LLP in 1985.
Paul's community involvement includes the Barrie Integrated Baseball Association, and the Optimist Club of Barrie as past President and Director. Paul has taught accounting and income tax at Georgian College in Barrie.
